9 month regression help
Hi everyone! My baby is 9-10 months. I implemented the Moms on Call schedule when my baby was 4.5, and it worked like a charm. For the last 5 months, she’s slept from 7pm - 7am; nap 8:30-10ish; nap 12:30-2:30ish; cat nap 5-5:30pm; bedtime @ 7pm.
When I started the nighttime sleep train method, I was preparing myself for the ache of baby crying and me not going in to nurse / console, but honestly my baby took to the training so easily. She cried for a bit the first night, and then slept through the night the next night and every night since.
WELL, the 9 month sleep regression has hit us like a train and I feel like we’re at a blank slate. She’s fighting her naps and is waking 4-6 times in the night.
I’m figuring out her new nap schedule, and definitely open to tips / advice! But that is not my main question / concern.
My question is- my initial thought was for when she wakes, since this is new and (hopefully) temporary, I’ll just go in and nurse her back to sleep. No sleep training methods.
But, I’m nervous this is going to set set us back and she’ll lose / forget the ability to put herself back to sleep. My heart aches at her crying and me not coming to her, but I also believe the Moms on Call book when they remind us that it’s okay for your baby to cry… they know their sound machine, pjs, crib… she knows she’s safe, and it’s okay for them to cry and learn to put themselves back to sleep.
And, I’m exhausted, and the lack of sleep is really starting to get to my wellbeing.
ALL THAT TO SAY- if anyone has any thoughts or wisdom, do y’all suggest I treat this regression like it’s temporary and just nurse her back to sleep when she wakes up? Or, is that potentially setting us back to her losing the ability to put herself back to sleep, and I should handle the regression with sleep training methodology?
I hope all of this is makes sense. Happy to clarify in the comments!
