HMO vs HDHP
Hello all -
New employee in CA, trying to decide between health insurance. I (M in early 20s, generally healthy) have the option between a Kaiser HMO or an Anthem Blue Cross HDHP.
The HDHP has a $2000 deductible, after which I have to pay 20% of the coinsurance. It has an HSA associated with it that the employer will contribute $1000 annually to, and I can contribute around $4000 to annually.
I understand the HMO may be “simpler,” but wasn’t sure if that outweighed the potential tax benefits from investing the HSA and paying out of pocket. For reference, I make just under 60k a year, so not bringing in crazy money.
Any thoughts on my situation would be appreciated!
