People in Lab/STEM related jobs did you have any backlash in having a tongue split?

A variant of this question pops up alot in the subreddit but I haven't seen anyone going for/with a lab or science related job answer. I'm going into research and lab work but I've been wanting a tongue split for a while now give or take over a year but when I brought it up to a friend they were adamant that I shouldn't really get it because it will risk any chances I have going into the field and to ask other people in said field if it affects their job.

I personally don't think it'll be a problem because tongue splits aren't that noticeable and easier to hide than a tongue piercing and I have a speech disability so I can use that as an excuse to me struggling to speak.

Any thoughts?
