Visual Anchors?
New to the sub so hi!
I’ve been trying for a while to find a way to verbalise something I’ve been experiencing because I’d like to find out if this is a “quirk” of mine or if this is something other people experience as well.
Since childhood I’ve had a need to have at least one photo of a person I admire visible to me. As a child, this was often book covers or posters.
As an adult it’s usually screenshots of YouTube thumbnails of my latest fixations.
When I’m having conversations with people I feel like I need to have these photos in my view, this is easier at home as I have posters up and it’s my own space. Then when I’m at work I use my Apple Watch face and at times my “recently played” on Spotify so it’s a bit more subtle.
I don’t know why it’s comforting, I assume it’s some kind of visual grounding, there’s only one other person that knows about this and they found out by accident (but was supportive about it) I find it hard to talk about because I don’t know why I do it.
Is this a thing??
