Going through a bad chess phase, how to bounce back?
It’s been around six months now, and I genuinely feel like I’m stuck in the worst chess slump of my life. Lost a lot of rating online, withdrew mid-way from two local tournaments recently, and I’m missing tactics that I used to see instantly. Even after spending time thinking, I somehow manage to play the most ridiculous lines, totally unlike how I used to play.
The most frustrating part is that I’m forgetting the openings I’ve studied. Not just ones I read about, but lines I’ve actually played and won with before. That’s never happened to me.
This all started after I didn’t clear an entrance exam I had been trying for 4th attempt. It hit me hard, but strangely, nothing else in life got shaken up like this. Just chess. I don’t know if I’m making excuses or if it’s something deeper. I keep asking myself: am I done with chess? Should I just stop playing?
I don’t expect magic answers, but if anyone’s been through something like this… how did you come back? Or did you at all?
