Landlord Appreciation
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share some thoughts on the struggles that small-time landlords face, especially when renting to professional tenants who may not appreciate the full picture.
There are many tenants out there who, for various reasons, don’t pay rent for months or even years. While this might seem like just a contractual issue, the reality is that small landlords often end up losing thousands of dollars each month. These landlords are not large corporations; they are often regular people trying to make ends meet while providing housing.
Without these landlords, many tenants would struggle to find housing, as they wouldn’t qualify for subsidized housing or would face long waiting lists. It's essential to recognize that these landlords are not just businesses; they are people who are taking financial risks to provide a place to live.
And here's the thing: if small-time landlords continue to be taken advantage of or treated with hostility, many will simply exit the rental market. When that happens, tenants will be left with only large property corporations as landlords — and those corporations won't hesitate to raise rents aggressively, enforce strict policies, and evict tenants without listening to any personal circumstances. The flexibility and humanity that many small landlords offer will disappear.
Let’s not lose sight of how vital small-time landlords are in keeping the rental landscape balanced and accessible. If you’re fortunate enough to have a fair and decent landlord, it’s worth showing some appreciation. Least tenants could do is pay your rent.
