Benchmark Crash - Incompatible Parts?
Hello,
I just built a new PC after being out of the game for about 2 years. It is like riding a back, and it came back to me relatively quickly, however, I was never all that gifted with technical troubleshooting - and I'm a bit of a hypochondriac when it comes to technology, so i feel like everything needs to be rooted out and perfected before I can start enjoying it.
I build a mini-ITX, using the Fractal Terra case. I wanted to make it rather beastly, and I got all the parts I was hoping for. I even scored a decent deal on a 5080 Founders Edition. So I threw it all together in a few hours, and it was good to go. I then went into the BIOS, as I had done in the past, and turned the RAM speed up the the advertised speed, 6800mhz.
After a few days of gaming, games like Cyberpunk or Total War: Warhammer III, would crash to desktop. I checked the temps and they were high, but nothing beyond what I was told to expect.
Last night I was trying to figure out the issue so i started stress testing the computer using AIDA64. Within 1 minute the stress test would throw and error and stop the test. So I reset the BIOS settings to optimized defaults, which put the RAM speed at 4800, and then tested it again - it all worked. I changed the RAM speed to 6000, stress test failed again.
So it appears the issue, and maybe what is causing the crashing of the games, is the overclocking of the RAM, which I've never had an issue with before. So I was hoping someone here could help me make sense of what may be wrong - considering, the motherboard and the CPU seem to be fully capable of handling the RAM speed I have.
Is the RAM overheating? I've never heard of that. The CPU temps are the same regardless of where the RAM speed is at (under stress). One thing I noticed is the RAM sticks advertise being intel XMP compatible, but say nothing about AMD or DOCP.
Thank you anyone and everyone for any help solving this issue. I really appreciate it. I am happy to provide any additional information. See parts list below.
