TIL The Running Man is set in 2025

I just finished up with The Dead Zone last night. I initially procrastinated on it for a while, but got through the lion's share of it in 3 days. That ended up easily being in my top 5 for King novels I've read so far. I won't give a review or spoilers, but the ending of it was really upsetting to me.

I decided instead of Christine I wanted to do The Running Man next. And to my surprise, the novel is set in the year of our lord 2025. I suppose that's why the film is coming out this year, but I never connected the dots on it until now. What am I in for with this book (without spoilers, obviously)?
