I love seeing tier lists, but I rarely see people explaining why they choose to put certain albums in certain places. Here is my list with an explanation. Every album is ranked in order of how much I enjoy it.

White Pony - This album is a timeless classic. I've listened to this album more times than I can count, and I've never been close to being bored with it. As a matter of fact, the more I listen to it, the more I appreciate certain songs more and more. Recently, I've been hooked on Digital Bath. Yes, I've listened to it hundreds of times, but *recently,* it has been hitting the right spot for me. Also, White Pony is one of the 13 albums I've listened to in my entire life to have a score of 10/10. 

Diamond Eyes - This album holds a special place in my heart because it is the first Deftones album I listened to. I love how absolutely *smooth* it is. I like the theme of the album, and I feel like every song on this record deserves its spot. This is also the second and last Deftones album I've given a 10/10 to.

Self-titled - It's rough, it's heavy, but still, songs like Deathblow, Lucky You, or Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event feel like aftercare after some of the tracks (I am looking at you, When Girls Telephone Boys), and even they are absolutely gut-wrenching. Incredible album. The only thing keeping it at the top of A, and not S tier, is Moana. I never really got into the song that much. It's not bad, but sometimes, when I am not in the mood for it, I just skip it.

Koi No Yokan - I feel like if Koi No Yokan were a person, it would be like a very chill dude who likes to hang out all the time but goes to bed early, except once in a while, when he goes bananas for a day. I would totally understand how somebody could put this album in S tier, especially if they like the more shoegazy and melodic side of Deftones. 

Around the Fur - Absolutely iconic. Even if my favorite album is White Pony, when somebody mentions Deftones, I immediately think of either My Own Summer or Be Quiet and Drive. I like Around the Fur much better than Adrenaline because I prefer the more refined sound it has. Also, I feel like this album first laid the foundation of the sounds that would later be used in White Pony. I have respect for this album, but I feel like it underdelivers on some songs like Dai the Flu or Rickets. I know that this would normally not be a problem, but I hate the silence in MX. LET ME LISTEN TO DAMONE, DAMN IT.

Ohms - I will be completely honest, I haven't listened to it that much, only when a random track plays on the shuffle, but I like every song on there. The only songs I've found myself going back to and purposefully playing because I want to listen to them are Pompeji and The Spell of Mathematics. 

Adrenaline - it's rough, it's heavy... wait, I said that already. I love Adrenaline and how utterly raw it is, but that is also its biggest downfall in my eyes. Around the Fur and Self-titled completely outclass Adrenaline in its own game, and it's not even close. But it wouldn't be fair for me to sit here and berate Adrenaline when this is the album that started it all. Tracks like Bored, Lifter, Root, 7 Words, and Engine No. 9 are pure bliss to listen to when I am in the mood or when I need to get pumped up for something. 

Saturday Night Wrist - While I was making this tier list and writing the explanations for the other album, Saturday Night Wrist was sitting right above Adrenaline in the A tier. But when I looked at the tracks, I realized that I only actually liked just a couple of them, and the rest I found okay. Tracks like Hole in the Earth, Beware, Cherry Waves, Mein (Yes, I like Mein), Xerces, and Kimdracula are absolute bangers, but if you ask me if I would rather listen to these songs only for the rest of my life or the entirety of Koi No Yokan, I would say Koi No Yokan in a heartbeat. The rest of the songs on the album are okay, EXCEPT Pink Cellphone. This is the only Deftones song I can't and won't listen to. 

Gore - Gore finds itself in the last position for the same reason as Saturday Night Wrist. I love Prayers / Triangles, Hearts / Wires, (L)MIRL, and Phantom Bride, but the rest of the songs I find okay. I mean, I will listen to them if they happen to play on shuffle, but I have never said to myself, "Gosh, I really want to listen to Xenon right now."

I am no music critic, and this is absolutely my unprofessional, subjective opinion, but I love Deftones, and I can appreciate every album for what it brings. I wish you guys a happy wait until the next album!
