Learning more about how Buddhists view end-of-life care

Question

Hello all!

I am inspired to ask this question because I took care of a practicing Buddhist patient who passed away from end-stage disease. As a non-Buddhist, I would love to learn more about how Buddha and adherents approach death - this is to help me care for future Buddhist patients who qualify for hospice because of cancer or end-stage heart disease.
