Welcome to the Holler
Commander Vrex, a towering figure in his sleek, black Zarnathi skimmer, swooped down from the stars with an air of confidence. His mission was simple: abduct a handful of Earth's inhabitants and transport them to the harsh mining colonies of Zarnath. He had studied the planet from afar, targeting regions with minimal technological advancements and sparse populations. The Ozark Mountains seemed perfect—a quiet, isolated corner of this backwater world.
As he descended, his sensors picked up a strange energy signature. Suddenly, the skimmer shuddered violently, and Vrex felt a searing pain in his shoulder. He had collided with something on the ground—a small, rustic building, its walls shimmering with a peculiar glow. He managed to land the skimmer, but it was clear he was injured and stuck in a place far more lively than he had anticipated.
Vrex stepped out of his skimmer, his shoulder throbbing, to find himself in the middle of a chaotic scene. Three families, dressed in vibrant plaid and denim, were gathered around a massive pig roast, their laughter and shouts echoing through the night. The air was thick with the smell of smoke, spices, and something he couldn't quite identify. As he approached, a loud crack sounded, and a small projectile whizzed past his head. It was a skeet shooting competition, and he had just become an unwelcome target.
"Hey there, what the hell you doin' here?" a burly man in a camouflage hat bellowed, leveling a shotgun at Vrex. "This here's a private party!"
Vrex tried to use his translator, but it sputtered and died, overwhelmed by the cacophony of human voices. "I... I am Commander Vrex of the Zarnathi Dominion," he managed to say, his voice laced with pain. "I mean no harm. I merely require a few of your kind for labor."
The crowd erupted in laughter. "Labor? Boy, you're in the wrong place for that!" someone shouted.
Vrex realized he had to escape. He turned to run, but his stealth field malfunctioned, flickering in and out as a result of some strange object jammed into his intake vent. He looked closer and saw it was a mix of duct tape and chicken wire. "Damn humans," he muttered, ripping it off.
He dashed into the woods, but the locals weren't about to let him go that easily. "Get him, boys! He's stole Uncle Jethro's ghost lightin' jar!" a voice roared.
Vrex ran, his injuries slowing him down. He could hear the thundering of feet and the barking of dogs behind him. As he stumbled, he realized his filtration system had been compromised. The air was thick with the scent of corn, and he felt a strange warmth in his system. "What have they done to me?" he slurred, feeling a bit lightheaded.
Suddenly, a flash of light blinded him, and he stumbled to the ground. When he looked up, a figure on an ATV with night-vision goggles was looming over him. The figure raised a makeshift EMP slingshot and fired, sending Vrex's systems into chaos. "Got ya, you alien bastard!" the figure shouted with a triumphant whoop.
As night fell, Vrex found himself trapped in a web of human ingenuity. He watched in horror as a group of elderly women in camouflage robes emerged from the shadows, their shotguns glinting in the moonlight. They were chanting something, and it sounded like a war cry. Vrex's translator sputtered to life just long enough to translate: "For the love of pork and the glory of the Ozarks!"
A small figure, a child, rode past on a wild boar, screaming a battle cry that sent shivers down Vrex's spine. "Justice is mine!" the child shrieked.
Vrex realized the truth: these humans weren't just resisting; they were enjoying every moment of it. There was no central authority, no surrender protocol. Just pure, unadulterated chaos. And as he lay there, his distress beacon fried, his pride shattered, Vrex finally understood why no other species had dared to conquer Earth. This planet was a wild, untamable beast, and he had just become its latest victim.
