Goals and hopes for the week?

Any concerns or obstacles?

Let's find out.

Topic of the Week

We've been over the topic of the real world influencing creative works a bunch of times before, and another aspect of it would be creators having their own environment be their frame of reference (which leads to the other topic of "write what you know", but that can be for another time). I'd say it often adds flavor or is excused by being a made-up world, but it can stick out either way.

Like, I look at One Piece and how it is the surname that goes first, even for the Western-sounding names. The funny thing would be that it would typically be the given name first in a Japanese work if the character isn't Japanese or Japanese-coded, but on the other hand, a bunch of names in One Piece would read a bit strangely if it were in that order.

Another example that has been mentioned on the sub before would be how American houses/apartments do not need keys to open from the inside. There are a thousand ways to justify it in story, but the reality is that it is juat a plain ole goof. And goofs can be endearing of course.

(Side note: I sorta hate using direct TV Tropes trope names, but I couldn't think of a better post title.)
