How might this decision impact individuals carrying a firearm when the law states they cannot?

In the state of Illinois it looks like illegal immigrants currently have greater firearm rights than citizens. This judgement makes it sound like the bar to strip one of their firearm rights has been raised significantly. Currently, if someone files a restraining order or you use mental health facilities, despite having no criminal record you lose all rights to self defense through a firearm, during a time period when violent crime is increasing in the region. Based on this decision, is it likely someone violating a restraining order, mental health hold, and / or other restrictions on gun rights would not hold in court on precedent grounds?

In other words, if someone carried an illegal gun in the state of Illinois for self defense and they used it on an assailant, attempting to mug them, would they still most likely have to serve time for carrying that illegal gun; despite being acquitted on all charges, besides the firearm violation?
