Invisalign after wisdom tooth removal - worth it?

Hello, I am F22 and considering Invisalign. The package plan would be $3800 for me and include everything including appointments, retainers, and whitening. I was also advised I’d probably only need to straighten my teeth for 6-8 months (at most a year) and then just on to wearing retainers. I never had braces or anything else growing up, and my teeth are fairly straight, except for some crowding with my front bottom teeth and one of my top front teeth stick out a bit. I am only considering Invisalign because I’ve always been a little insecure about my teeth/smile and I think I’m getting this deal at a good price.

For context, I had my bottom left wisdom tooth extracted when I was 19. The remaining three have all come in since then, all 3 of them very impacted and have erupted by now. They grew in a while ago but I didn’t have insurance at the time and it was too expensive for me to consider getting them removed until now. I am worried the impacted teeth have been making my teeth crowd, and I can’t tell if they are “less straight” than before, leading me to consider Invisalign. I have an extraction consultation this week and will probably have the full extraction surgery sometime later this month. I’d get Invisalign after my mouth healed.

Should I? Is Invisalign worth it? IF my teeth did become more crowded while I had impacted wisdom teeth in, will removing them give my teeth the space they need to straighten out WITHOUT Invisalign? Is $3800 even a good price? I figure if I do this now while I’m young, I’ll reap the benefits for longer.

TL DR:

  • is Invisalign worth it at all?
  • after I get my impacted wisdom teeth out, will my teeth “straighten themselves out” a bit and then I won’t even need Invisalign?
