What can we do to make this long-distance family life work?

My husband is planning to commute to work from LA to SF, where he would spend Mon early AM - Weds late PM. We both work intense jobs (mine local in LA, his in SF). We have a young 2yo daughter. LA is where my parents live so they can help me out. Any advice on how to make this work for us?
