Why do bad things happen whenever I try to start praying again?

So something happened to me that made me stop believing in God. Before that I would pray everyday but that thing changed me. For 4 years I havent prayed daily, because its Hard to believe anymore. During these 4 years I have tried 3 times to go back to praying, but everytime I do something really bad happens the next day. I tried praying last night and something bad happened today. I read some stuff online of People saying its the devil trying to sabotage the praying.
