Need help troubleshooting iPhone voice->text issues when in CarPlay

For some reason when I am connected via CarPlay to the volvo ex90 the voice to text won't work on my phone. I have to disconnect from Carplay for it to work. Kind of annoying. Any tips? Am I doing something wrong? Thank you for any insights here.
