Gate to Sovngarde crashing on loading

I've recently felt the modded Skyrim itch recently, and I just had to try it again. However, being the tech-illiterate that I am, I didn't check the installation guide for Gate to Sovngarde first. Now, looking back, this was an idiotic mistake, but at the time I didn't think of it. Turns out, having had some mods previously could cause issues, so I had to do all the preparatory steps after already installing the modlist. 

The issue is thus: Starting the game is fine, but as soon as I step out the door for the alternate perspective starting scenarios, it's like I'm a blind man breakdancing through a minefield. If I choose anything other than let fate decide, I crash. If I choose to leave it up to a coin toss, I crash 50% of the time. Sometimes after loading in, I just crash randomly as well.

I cleaned out my entire Skyrim folder and reverified the files but was unable to delete the mods at the source because the option won't appear on my vortex (latest version). Looking at a crash report analyzer, it looks like something to do with facegen (this is strange, because I started in an orc stronghold once and the faces there didn't cause any problems.) is causing all the crashes, but it's different mods in particular each time.

Any help is appreciated. I'd really like to avoid having to reinstall the modlist, because I'm not giving Nexus a cent for premium.
