AIO, or would I be overreacting for bailing on a group that I moderate?
In late 2023, I joined a debate/discussion group on facebook and really enjoyed it. I have taken part in it regularly since then. In March of 2024, I was made a moderator of that group and have been doing that ever since. The guy who admins it, let's call him 'Rick', isn't the guy who created that group. The creator of the group (Devin) has since given up on facebook, so the only people running that group are Rick and I. When Devin created the group, he made some odd choices as far as what kinds of settings he enabled and which ones he disabled, so the group is a little wonky to run. Also, since then, I have been the majority of the legwork when it comes to actually running that group.
Several times over the last year, I suggested to Rick that we make some changes that would make the group easier to run. Those changes are things that only an admin can modify. He said that he's not super comfortable with certain aspects of the admin interface. I told him that if he wanted to make me an admin, even just temporarily, that I would make those changes (and only those changes) and then just go back to being a moderator like I am, now. Every time he's been really wishy-washy and non-committal about it. Back in late March, I was made admin of another group, and so I immediately went in and familiarized myself with the admin interface of that group, and within a matter of minutes I had figured out how to quickly and easily make the changes that I thought should be made in the debate group.
That same day (again, in March,) I sent a list of those changes to Rick and what sections of the admin interface those options showed up in. He left me on read. I waited until 04/09 to message him and just asked what was up, and was again left on read. I messaged him on 04/12 to ask if everything was okay between us because he kept leaving me on read. He said he was just busy doing outdoor projects because the weather was getting nicer, that he was also being lazy and then just forgot. He did not address the changes I had mentioned.
I waited until 05/02 to message him about the changes. He said that I could make whatever changes I felt necessary, but I reminded him that they were admin changes and that either he'd have to do them, or make me an admin so I could make them. He, again, left me on read. I messaged him on 06/25 about some weirdness with FB messing with groups and de-listing or just deleting them randomly and after a brief convo about that, I asked him if it would be a fair assumption that me being made an admin of the group would be a no-go, and he again, left me on read and hasn't responded or messaged me since then.
Starting a few days ago, I haven't done shit in that group. No post or membership approvals, no removal of shitposts, no nothing. I have been keeping an eye on it in case any thing really egregious goes down, but I haven't used any of my moderator powers and I haven't posted or commented in it. I did go in and wipe out all of my previous posts in the group except for two rules posts I made last year. Now I'm wondering if I should also delete them and leave the group.
I mean, it can be a really fun group, but if I can't even communicate effectively with the guy who runs it, then what's the point? Am I overreacting about this and/or would I be overreacting if I just bailed completely?
Also, I already know that facebook is a rapidly declining hellscape of a website. I really only use it for a few groups and for messenger.
