Spironolactone vs supplements

Support/Advice

So I got my androgenic alopecia diagnosis about a year and a half ago I believe? I went to the dermatologist after years of progressive hair loss (I was already born with really fine hair). She had me get bloodwork done which basically came back with low ferritin (12) and low vitamin d (30). She prescribed vitamin d tablets, iron tablets, Spironolactone 100mg, and a topical minoxidil formulation from their lab.

It was very difficult for me to be consistent in the beginning. I either struggled to use the minoxidil every day due to it making my hair look thinner after washing, or my hypochondria self thought the Spironolactone was too much. However, after about 6 months I got into a groove and was switched to oral minoxidil 1.25mg and Spironolactone 100mg.

I feel like the whole purpose of the Spironolactone is to keep the hair on my head but I’ve seen the same amount of shedding this entire time. No more or less. I really don’t want to be on this drug if it’s not working because I’m sure it’s effecting my hormones. Can anyone tell me if they’ve ever switched from Spironolactone and then went to like pumpkin seed oil or saw palmetto and seen BETTER results? I’m fine with still taking minoxidil.
