The ETs Weren't Hunting Us
A far off storm was approaching. My friend and I wanted to capture pics of the lightning. We knew of a perfect place called Bald Witch Mountain. Near the top there is a clearing that opens up and you have total view of the west and valley below. Perfect for viewing far off thunderstorms. The drive to the mountain is an easy four hour drive so we left early enough to intercept it on top of the mountain while it was still a safe distance a ways. I brought my DSLR cameras, tripods and my action cam for those time-lapse shots. I keep them in a box in their carrying cases for easy transport. We left at 8PM with the hope of getting there by 12AM and seeing the storm come in around 2AM.
Before the long drive we stopped, filled the tank with gas and bought some jerky snacks. I let my friend drive. He's ten years younger than me but always full of energy that helps keep me youthful although he does at times overreact. As we drove through the countryside in the middle of nowhere we ran into a thickness, we both looked at each other he said, "Did you feel that?" I said, "Hell yeah brother the spirit world is vibrant tonight!" It sure was. There was a noticeable shift in reality as if we crossed an invisible boundary.
As we finally made it to the road the mountain was on and was greeted by an all dirt loose gravel road. We were now only around an hour's drive away. The sky was crystal clear with just a sliver for a moon. It set low on the horizon, but was amazingly beautiful. My spirit was full of peace and wonderment at the beauty that was before me. As we continued on we crossed some nearly washed out low water crossings spots that needed new culverts. We managed to hit a hole hard enough that it bent the rim allowing the tire to go flat..
My friend started to panic saying he had no tool to remove lug nuts. That the last time he borrowed my car he let his uncle borrow the 4 way and never got it back. I told him to just check on what we have and a sturdy pair of vice grips would work in a pinch. So as he's back there thumbing around I hear him say something that made my heart sink. My cameras weren't back there! In the excitement to leave i totally forgot the box! Now I was upset. After all, the whole purpose of our drive was to photo document the storm Now this. Our inventory consisted of a worn out spare tire that still had air, a small pipe wrench, an old screw jack but no tire iron. That's ok. The pipe wrench would work.
My friend needed to use the bathroom, I told him I'd keep the headlights on, do not wonder too far off the road. I was immersed in what I was doing and was able to get one of the lug nuts off. Just four more to go when I hear a scream. I look up and my friend is running full force yelling, "Get in the car! Get your ass in the car now!" I waited right until he was there and he got in.I could hear what frightened him. Hooves hitting the ground! He barely got back to the car when a herd of mule deer started making their way past us. Some were tripping into holes in the road and in the river while others were jumping and landing on top of each other. We quickly turned off the lights to not blind them. There were 30 to 40 of them and some were jumping over the car trying to get away from whatever it was chasing them. They were in full blown panic mode.
What was chasing them? Other humans? A cougar? Maybe something far more sinister? As soon as they past I went to get the pipe wrench that was by the car but couldn't see it anywhere and the flashlight I did have had been damaged. We sat there for a few moments going over what just happened. We both agreed it was probably a big cat hunting. We then realized the gravity of the situation. We had a flat tire, out in the middle of nowhere, with no cell service, and an approaching thunderstorm, and a hungry predator. All though we did have a 9mm pistol and a magazine with 12 rounds.
We figured the best choice was to drive on the rim to the nearest major road to where we could flag someone down or at least get cell service. Just as I was about to have him turn on the lights and get out of the car to put the spare tire up and get the jack we noticed a small bright blue light about 100 yards ahead of us and about a thousand feet in the air.
We noticed it pulsing several light beams at the ground. Like little orange balls of light. My friend went to grab the pistol out of the glove box and I scolded him. Don't you fucking dare! I said. My gut was telling me we needed to hide and fast! I climbed into the backseat threw my friend a blanket and got under another one. We sat there and watched this thing fire more pulses of light and move toward us. Don't even breathe brother I said.
I could see through a hole in the blanket that was created by a campfire ember. I couldn't tell how many there were but, there were several humanoid like beings around the car. They were glowing light blue 10 or so feet tall and translucent. I noticed one of them pickup a mule deer up with ease by its hind leg that had an obvious break in it. The poor creature was in pain and scared to death, The creature dragged it onto the bank and then all of a sudden a bright flash of light hit them and the deer and it were gone. Another one of these things found another deer with a broken leg and they got zapped by light too and vanished. We then heard a slow tap on the window, but not like are you there, but as if they were interested in glass. That's the feeling I got. As we lay there ready to panic I noticed lights from another vehicle shine in the rearview mirror. With that the things left. The vehicle got closer and closer and then blue lights came on. I never have I been so happy to see the cops. Well, the park ranger at least.
I tell my friend it's the cops and he got up too. He was able to see some of what was going on also and said the light had hovered over us and as soon as the lights hit the car they vanished. The ranger came up to the car and first thing he asked us, "You men need to change your clothes?" We laughed and asked if he seen anything and he said he did. He said he watched the whole thing and only intervened when he saw the thing come up to the car. He said this creature was becoming more a popular sighting. My friend told him he was going to shoot at it, but he said that would have been bad as one of their own shot at one and it paralyzed him for a month and he was in so much pain he wanted to die.
The lightning had already started a long time ago and it was starting to rain. He asked why we were out there and we told him. He helped change our tire and got us on our way.. He said he couldn't stop us but asked if we not share the location. He said he felt like these things may start attacking humans and did not want the hassle of the feds or the network news inundating the town.
