My(32M) husband is the saver and I (29F) am the spender. How do I get him to see my side?
My husband and I make a good income. We are maxing out our Roths, his 401k, and about 15% in my 401k and climbing. We are aggressively saving for a car to buy out right in a few months and have 30k in an emergency fund. Anyways, I feel like my husband is a little too strict with spending sometimes and can be a financial miser at times(if you know you know). Anyways how do I talk to him about our goals and me wanting to spend money on upgrading the house and buying more furniture? We have a 4 bedroom house and our front room is completely empty, carpet needs replacing, he still has some furniture from right out of college that I desperately want to replace. I don't want to have a conversation where it gets to the point where I start crying for him to understand that we can't take our money with us when we die. I'm the spender and he's the saver for sure. We work well together because I recognize that in myself and need someone to bring me down to reality but sometimes I just wish he wouldn't have paralysis by analysis. The conversation goes if I want to buy an expensive item I have to do my research on it and kinda pitch to him why it's the one. We go see it at the store like ten times before we buy it. When we had our baby I gave him a list of big ticket items I wanted to buy and we bought them one at a time. It was a slow process and we eventually bought everything. I guess I'm just a I want it right now person married to a beyond delayed gratification person.
