I want a cat, roomie doesn’t

Hey y’all,

This is just me asking for advice so that I’M not being a bad roommate. I’m about to move in with my best friend who has a very sweet dog. I’ve been wanting a cat for the past year, but didn’t feel confident I could afford any potential medical bills and pay for rent, utilities, etc solo. Having a roomie means I’ll be able to adopt now as I’ll have more discretionary funds!

I talked to my future roomie about it, and she said her dog tries to chase cats and asked me to wait until after we live together. The thing is, we’re signing an 18 month lease with plans to renew after (we’ve been friends for years, we’re compatible). I said we could train him to not chase the cat + I could try to keep the cat in my bedroom. She is very against me getting a cat, and I’m honestly pretty frustrated! I don’t understand why she should get to have a pet snd I don’t or why her pet alone should dictate whether or not I can adopt. I love cats and I miss having a lil critter to take care of. Any advice on how to handle this conversation?
