Mt boyfriend and I have some issues regarding our incomes and communication. I want a rant but also advice if possible. Its kind of a mess.

I'm 28 and hes 27. Weve been dating just over two years but met over 6 years ago. He is gay but he has a son. We live together. It's a great relationship but the one issue that keeps cropping up is our incomes.

I do earn considerably more than him, but it's like he has to prove that he can pay his way. I do understand it but I love him and sometimes I want to do something nice for him or his son. The bills are okay but it's eating out, a holiday or gifts etc.

Our latest bust up came a few days ago on his son's birthday. His son wanted this toy. It was too expensive for my boyfriend so I went behind his back and bought it from us. Yes I was wrong but I wanted his son to have it.

A huge argument happened afterwards. The short story. He said he can't be relying on others. I asked him is he thinking of breaking up. He said no. I said I'm not either so he can rely on me. He said something like we arent even married though. I said well let's get married. He was so confused and said thats not a real proposal. I said it is real and he said okay.

Neither of us have mentioned anything about the proposal since. And no closer to settling the income issue.
