Backcountry great sand dune tips

Hey yall! I have a 2 night trip in the great sand dunes backcountry coming up. I’m looking for advice on what all to bring/ expect. I imagine it’ll be hot and we’ll need plenty of water. I already have sand bags to stake down all the tents.

Is there any water available in/near the dunes to filter?

Should we try to bring portable shade?

How do we go about food storage? No bear canisters required from what I saw.
