The Apocryphon of John and the Gospel of Judas

So I just recently discovered some apocrypha findings, the most important one being the Nag Hammadi library, which is a collection of texts dated back between the 1st and the 4th century. There they found the The Apocryphon of John.

I leave here some of the content of this text:

So, there is the Pleroma (Koinē Greek: πλήρωμα, literally "fullness") which generally refers to the totality of divine powers.

According to the Apocryphon of John, the first archon (=Demiurge) was born from Sophia, an aeon emanated from the Pleroma, who, instead of uniting with another aeon, joined with her own desire for the hidden God. From this union, a "beastly being with the face of a lion" was born: Yaldabaoth. Yaldabaoth, an entity independent from the Pleroma, began the creation of the material world and generated other archons, each one in an animalistic form, not even remotely similar to the aeons living within the Pleroma itself. Each of his descendants, like him, had the ability to create, although their lack of direct descent from the hidden God limited this ability. Yaldabaoth reigned supreme over the cosmos, while his children ruled over each of the heavens. During the creation of the material world, however, the Metropator appeared, an emanation of the hidden God who intended to reach Sophia. The archons, astonished by such power, decided to capture the hidden God through one of his manifestations; thus, in the image of the Metropator, they created earthly Adam.

Yaldabaoth and the archons are therefore the powers responsible for the creation of humanity and the material world, but they are also the powers who, thanks to their remembrance of the harmony and order of the Pleroma, establish the laws of the Cosmos and of Time. However, their function is not limited to this. They are also the greatest obstacle to humanity's return to the hidden God. Their work is manifested precisely in subjugating humanity through their laws.

Another interesting text is the Gospel of Judas.

So in this text Jesus reveals to Judas secrets that he does not share with the other disciples, including the nature of the Demiurge, an entity whom the Gnostics considered the creator of the material world. The Gospel of Judas describes the Demiurge as a malevolent entity responsible for the creation of the material world, which the Gnostics saw as imperfect and as a prison for the soul.

What I found extremely interesting is the fact that those texts are obviously considered non-canonical to the Christian religion (lol), they are clearly gnostic (I think that the gnostic sensed something right and that's why they have been historically suppressed) and they describe so precisely what we are all sensing (in this community at least).

Just something to think about.
