How do I feel less miserable as a single gay 26 year old?

It's so maddening looking at all the partnered people around me and I can't help but wonder... When is it my turn? I'm 26 living in a small town and being a busy PhD student. I deeply want to secure a level of intimacy with a partner that feels like home to me. Everyone around me is partnered or married. I feel like I'm missing out and that this may never really happen.

I also worry a lot that people in relationships must look down on me for being a single person. Perhaps, me (that person over there) has something going on with him.. since he is "alone"...

I have severe OCD and so I've been fielding random couples on Grindr and scruff the following questions en masse:

  1. How did you meet your partner? Was it unexpected? Remember everyone always tells us single folk that you find your partner unexpectedly

  2. The first two paragraphs of this post.

I have polled these two items to many, many couples in the last week. Probably 50 by now.

I want to see if the partnered person's ever felt loneliness or had to learn the canonical "learn to be happy with yourself alone before finding someone or else it will never work". I want to see if people in relationships can relate to the Lamentations of a single person. And most importantly if they view me as inferior
