GPS Tracking?

I just realized I've been using AirTags incorrectly. I have one in my child's backpack, however I've learned it isn't meant to track movement and goes hours without updating a location. I also learned it notifies other iPhones nearby that an AirTag has been detected. My fault for not reading into them a bit better.

Anyhow, my son is 5 and a half and I'd like a somewhat discreet way to be able to see his location at all times/get notified when he is moving. He is spending some time at a day camp and they go for hikes and such, so I'd like something I can track.

I saw the TILE with life 360, but it sends out an SOS if pressed so I don't want to risk him accidentally doing that.

Any suggestions?
