Has any brand had a more interesting and complex evolution than Stone Island?
Hey everyone,
I was thinking about brands that have managed to stay relevant across decades by being adopted by completely different subcultures, and I keep coming back to Stone Island.
Their journey is fascinating. It started with the Italian "Paninaro" youth culture in the '80s, then got adopted by the UK football "casuals" who saw it as a status symbol. Now, it's a staple in high-end streetwear, worn by rappers like Drake and Travis Scott. It has navigated all these different worlds without ever really changing its core identity of technical innovation and a military-inspired aesthetic.
It's a rare feat. Maybe Dr. Martens has a similar story, moving from a work boot to a symbol of punk and counter-culture?
Can you think of another brand that has been adopted by so many different tribes so successfully? I'm curious to hear your examples.
