Can I be TME as an AMAB?
I recently learned about the terms "TME" and "TMA" ("transmisogyny exempt" and "transmisogyny affected"), and I'm a bit confused by them. I feel like, in a biological sense, I would be considered "TMA."
But when I think about the meaning of the term, in the sense of actually being affected by transmisogyny, I have to say I feel a lot more kinship with the TME label. As in, even though I'm AMAB, I don't feel like transmisogyny affects me very much in my day-to-day. I hardly ever get misgendered, I don't feel "othered" in cis-dominated or queer spaces, I haven't had any problems with accessing the healthcare and surgeries that I need, and I've had a successful career for someone my age. Most of my friends and the family that I'm close to are what you would call TME. I definitely have some friends who are TMA, but I relate to them less and less as the years go by.
I recognize that I'm lucky to avoid the worst of transmisogyny. And of course I've felt like I'm TMA at times, but more in a "transmisogyny affects everyone" kind of way, not like it's who I am. To be honest, I just don't think about transmisogyny very much.
Why do you think some AMABs are more affected by transmisogyny than others? Maybe it's because I'm a cis guy, it just doesn't bother me that much. I think for now I'll stick to TMA so I don't upset anybody, but I hope it's not offensive to ask here. I'm still figuring this stuff out.
