IDL Scummy business practices

Needed to get our oven repaired because it appears the heating element gave up. We couldn't find the model number so called the company who referred us to their partnered engineering service after listening to operators for what felt like eternity 2-2-2-2-1-1-2-2 zzz.

Got onto the phone and was told we'd need to book an engineer. No problem, we discussed the job and I asked for a quote for my landlady. "We don't give quotes to customers". Ok, can I find the prices anywhere "yes on our website". Obviously there was no pricing structure to be found. In both cases though - wtaf?

Do they think I'm an idiot? I'm not calling out anybody for any job without agreeing to a price structure first. Literal next company on Google had an automatic quote generation webform. My goodness. How do these pathetic cowboy practices honestly still survive in 2025?
