Why Do The Seraphites refer to Lev as "Them" In No Return?

I can see why the WLFs and Rattlers would use the pronoun them, but the Serephites were angry at Lev for not being a bride and all that. Why would the Serephites then use Levs preferred pronoun when trying to kill Lev?
