Durnehvir not spawning?

so it seems highly likely i did break it but i was doing the soul cairn part of the dawnguard dlc and after Durnehvir talked to me and i learned the shout i booked it out of there but even though i spent three dragon souls to unlock the whole shout he will not spawn, was i supposed to wait a little longer after he was done talking to me to leave? and will i have to reload my last save in there since i am no longer a vampire and no longer able to go in there.
