Socket set question

While taking a look at some icon chrome sockets recently, I noticed the over lap between the 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 is substantial.

1/4 gives 5mm to 14mm, 3/8 gives 6mm to 19mm, 1/2 gives 12mm to 24mm

I understand that 3/8 is sort of universally versatile, but would it also make sense to just have the 1/4 and 1/2 sets, and skip the 3/8 altogether?

You would only duplicate 3 sizes and get 5 to 24 mm. What am I missing? there must be some reason I'm over looking to own all three drive sizes?
