Question about the box puzzle mechanics

Someone showed me the trailer for the 2022 movie and I saw that when you finish the puzzle it takes the guys blood.

My question is what if you finish the puzzle but the box doesn’t get any blood on it. Like if you used mechanical arms or something to finish it there wouldn’t be any blood for it to take.

I know this is a stupid question but I thought I would ask anyways lol
