Coerced into signing a spa contract with third-party loan. now being charged for services I never used. What are my options?
I went to a beauty spa for what was advertised as a free consultation. By the end of the appointment, I was being heavily pressured to sign a contract. I told the consultant that I wanted to speak with my husband first, but she was extremely persuasive and kept emphasizing limited-time deals and discounts.
I wasn’t clearly informed that:
The contract was non-refundable It was a 2-year commitment Financing would be through a third-party lender There would be high interest charges I went home, thought about it overnight, and decided I didn’t want to go through with the services. That’s when I learned I couldn’t cancel. I looked up reviews of the company and saw several people sharing similar experiences.
I called the spa and begged them to cancel the contract. They refused. I also contacted the financing company, but they said the loan can only be cancelled with the spa’s approval.
At this point, I’ve made two months of payments, even though I’ve never used a single service or returned to the spa. Out of desperation, I changed my credit card info to stop further charges.
The total loan amount was just over $3,000. I’m looking for guidance on:
What my legal options are? Whether the lender or spa can come after me for the remaining balance. If others have successfully disputed similar contracts in Ontario or Canada
I genuinely feel I was coerced and misled. Any advice or next steps would be appreciated.
