Transient global amnesia???
My mother (54f) is medically complex. She has myasthenia gravis. She takes a lot of medication to keep herself alive.
She works stressful 12 hour shifts, usually leaving early in the morning around 3:30 am.
Last night, my mom called me at 4 and I missed it. I called her back at 4:50 and she picked up, telling me that she got confused and lost while driving. I pried a little more, and she says that at one point she hung up a phone call with a friend and it’s the last thing she remembers.
I looked at her path on life 360 and she drove about 30 minutes before coming back, realizing she was lost (she missed a turn she needed to take to get to work) and stopped at a dollar general to try and open Google maps which was hard for her to use. (She already kinda struggles with google maps on a normal day.)
She ended up turning around and continuing to work, and when she called her coworker to tell her why she was late she insisted that she goes to the hospital.
They did a complete work up. Tia testing, ct scans with and without contrast, an mri, and even an echocardiogram because she also has a hole in her heart.
Every single test came back normal. She had low potassium and they gave her some in the hospital. They admitted her (by this point I’m at the hospital with her.)
She had another moment where for a second she forgot why she was talking to a nurse. Other than that, she was completely mentally there. She had no irritability or fogginess.
The NP called up a neurologist (who she has a follow up in 2 weeks with) and the neurologist is pretty certain it was Transient global amnesia. After reviewing these things personally it really does feel like that, but I’m so terrified of missing something important.
I saw online that the spell must be witnessed to be considered TGP. But they did put it in her chart.
Please give your thoughts. Thank you so much.
