Replacing an old deck. When I ripped out the old one I found a set of concrete stairs underneath that the old deck had been built on top off. After I busted them out and ripped off the old janky ledger (if you can call it that) I found a decent amount of rot.

I hired a contractor to repair the rotten sill and rim joist. Turns out the joists all run parallel to where I want to attach my ledger. (Id like to stay away from a floating deck so I don't block access to the crawl space with posts and pier block).

I can only access the backside of the rim joist to the blue line (there is a wall in the crawl space where the blue line is) but would like my deck to extend to the red line. Also my house seems to have exterior layers like an onion that complicate the situation.

How do I make this ledger work? Do I continue cutting through the stucco underneath all the way to the red line? And how do I reinforce the rim joist so that it can support the ledger (blocking and tension ties?), especially between the blue and red line since I can't access the crawl space there. Or should I sister more boards under the door to make them even with the stucco/siding to the right and attach the ledger to that and some tapcons into the stucco? Every option I can think of seems... Suboptimal.

I sense I might need to give up the ledger idea and go with a floating deck...

Ledger or not?
