What should be done with violent people?

Ok, so I ask this in good faith as a person who is very skeptical of mainstream psychiatry. I completely advocate that people who don’t harm others should be allowed to have their freedom to choose if they want treatment or not.

I’ve heard some stories here about people being sectioned against their will. I’m not saying that I think everyone who was, was displaying violent behavior towards other people but there are some people who do exhibit behaviors that are incompatible with living in society.

What do you guys think should be done with someone with psychosis or schizophrenia who becomes violent? I had a friend who went through psychosis and fought the police and destroyed his property enough where neighbors were scared.

I am not saying psychiatry is perfect or even good. But if someone is going to throw fecal matter on someone, attack people, and exhibit violent behavior in public. I don’t think we should turn a blind eye, and unfortunately the psych ward has a purpose to protect us from people like that.
