New kitten constantly drools, doesn't eat and sleeps all day.

Medical Questions

Hey everyone,

I adopted a new kitten about a week ago and things started off really well. The first day, she was energetic, playful, and curious—running around the house, getting into little play fights with my 8-month-old cat, and just being a classic mischievous kitten.

But the very next day, her behavior changed drastically. She stopped playing completely and just laid in the same spot all day. She barely moves except to drink a lot of water, which almost immediately turns into excessive drooling. Like, a lot of drool. She hasn’t eaten a single thing in three days now.

We took her to the vet early on, but they couldn’t determine the exact cause. They mentioned possibilities like an infection, or that she might’ve eaten something she shouldn’t have. We went back again and this time they suggested doing X-rays or bloodwork, but my dad (who's helping me with vet visits) doesn’t want to go through with it due to the cost. He doesn’t have a strong bond with her and is leaning toward euthanizing her, which honestly breaks my heart. She’s so gentle and affectionate, even in this sick state.

The vet did give us some anti-biotics but I feel so helpless. I really want to give her a chance but I’m just at a loss on what to do and I dont want her to suffer any move than she has too.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Does this sound like poisoning, a virus, or a blockage? Any advice on what could be the issue would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
