Curious if anyone has tried mild heat when rooting a cutting. Was playing around with asking Claude about the factors that trigger rooting for Trichocereus, and it suggested that heat is one. I can't find any citations for this - the closest I found is [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/sanpedrocactus/comments/wqsdln/does_temperature_affect_speed_of_rooting/), which is pretty speculative.

I'm sure there's a lot of variation just in the ambient temps where people are growing them - has anyone who has rooted a lot of cuttings noticed patterns around this?

I started rooting my cutting last week. Air temp in my house has been around 74F, when I measured the temp a few inches into soil (in the morning), it was 70F. I have it on a cheap USB heating mat. It's set to low - per a temp gun, the mat got up to 82F or so, and the meat thermometer (about 3" down) got up to 77F. Not a huge change, but biological processes can be pretty dependent on temperature, so might make a difference.

I think it'd be cool to do a more rigorous experiment on this. Something along the lines of root maybe 6-8 cuttings at once (or more if possible!), split into matched pairs. Each pair should be as similar as possible (similar cultivar, similar size), and should have the same conditions as much as possible. Then one from each pair gets a heating mat - something that'll keep it like 5-7F above ambient. Then compare the time to rooting between the pairs.

I'm just getting started, so I don't yet have the plants nor the space for this. Hopefully in a few years :)

Anyone else tried mild heat to speed up rooting?
