Very short/light period - looking for insight/advice
Hello,
I am 29F and I’ve noticed over the last year or 2 my periods have gotten progressively shorter/lighter. I was on birth control for probably 8 years straight starting at age 16 so I really don’t have a great baseline of my menstrual cycles but when I first got off birth control, for the first year or so, they were about 4 days long. I would also get really bad PMDD, cramps, breast tenderness, etc. I had a lot of personal stress, a very intense job, and overall chaotic life at the time. Fast forward a few years, I’ve changed pretty much every circumstance of my life and now live a pretty peaceful life as well as have healthy habits to manage stress (and have for the last year-ish). However, my periods are now only 1 (2 max) days long. I also do not get any PMS symptoms anymore besides a little irritability. But very minimal cramps, no breast tenderness, nothing. The flow for the 1-2 days is fairly moderate and a dark red color which seems healthy.
I know for some women my cycles might seem like a dream but I am little worried something might be wrong or my hormones are off? For context, although my life is pretty peaceful and stress levels are low now, I have been working out and weight training very consistently for about a year now, and I have lost 25+ lbs from this. I am eating at or above my maintenance calories for my height and weight. I’m not sure if this could have messed up my hormones from the weight loss but I have gained a LOT of muscle so I would assume this would be good? I do also have an inflammatory bowel disease that I know can cause inflammation and stress on the body but it is fairly well managed right now.
The last time I had my hormones checked - my progesterone was high and estrogen was low. My DHEA was also very low.
I’m wondering if anyone has any insight into my short/light periods and if they have had a similar experience and it turned out to be normal/healthy for them. I’m really just worried about infertility as I’m looking to conceive in the next few years.
