One-handed wheelchair user here—any grip hacks for pushing while I wait on power assist approval?

Hey everyone! I’m getting my first wheelchair soon, and I only have use of one hand. I’m currently fighting with insurance to approve a Firefly power assist attachment, but in the meantime I still need to be able to get around.

Here’s the situation: • I only have use of my right hand (no dexterity though—can’t really grip). • I can’t effectively grab the push rim, but I can use my arm/hand to push somewhat. • I’ll be using Natural Fit push rims on the chair.

Has anyone tried anything like a rubber mitten, glove, strap, or some kind of assistive hack to help with propulsion if you don’t have a full grip? I know I can’t push far this way, but even a little independence around the house or short distances would make a difference right now.

Would love to hear any ideas or experiences—DIY or products. Thanks in advance!
