Can hearing about someone’s dying process make you momentarily fear death?

I had no clue where I could put this problem and it’s probably dumb so I figured I’d see if I could get some answers here but if it’s too graphic(?) I can take it down

My stepmothers stepdad (I’ll call him T so it’s not too confusing) is currently in the process of dying due to cancer and she is down where they live helping support her mom during this time, and she occasionally updates us and sends photos on how he’s doing..from the sounds of it he’s really not doing well he looks really sick and he cries all the time and I feel really bad for him

The issue with this is that while I have always had a sensitivity of death, it seems like this recent event with T is making it really worse. My father who is 60 has been fine all his life but in the past month he has gotten arthritis and was put on medication but now he’s more tired than normal and occasionally just doesn’t feel like eating. This has triggered something in me I think because the last week or so since she left I have been crying for hours in my room unable to sleep just paralyzed with fear that my father is dying even though both his parents lived to their 90s so reasonably it doesn’t make sense he’d suddenly die now

I’m just wondering if anyone else has also experienced a spike in fear of death while hearing about someone dying, and this might be insensitive but will it go away once T dies and then I don’t keep thinking about it?? I can’t enjoy spending time with my father because I keep checking to make sure he’s okay and I’m always on the verge of crying when I’m with him even though it’s not like he’s acting that different I just want this to go away

Sorry for ranting any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated and helpful hopefully I just don’t want to be alone in this
