Hand expression before birth
Now before I start, I know about the supposed risk of preterm labor expressing/pumping before 37 weeks. I'm not here to discuss that, there is also very little studies actually done on it so I'm here wondering if there are any mothers who regularly expressed or even pumped earlier in pregnancy? How did it turn out? Did you have any negative effects? I am not breastfeeding yet as I am only 25 weeks pregnant. My doc suggested me to hand express for only a few days due to a very inflamed nipple caused by so much leakage and possible infection even though I've been cleaning it any time I noticed leakage (up to 4 times a day). I've been wearing catchers in my bra since I've been leaking so much. On average I an LEAKING half an oz from one breast during a 6 hr work day. I have been hand expressing for only 10 minutes once a day for the past few days now to help relieve my achy breast and been getting just over 1 1/4 oz each time. I know to stop if any contractions happen or anything else unusual as my doc also covered that. But I would like to be able to continue if it will help me stop leaking so much and continue reducing discomfort.
So, I don't know what my doc will say at my appointment tomorrow but has anyone else here expressed milk in any way before the suggested 36-27 weeks?? Benefits? Pros/Cons?
