Engineer looking to Pivot to Med School
The backstory here is basically I am a civil engineering major and chose civil because I thought it would be more “hands on” and social than the other disciplines (idk why) and am now realizing it really is not. I have worked two internships now, one in construction and another in design and it has kind of disillusioned me from the industry.
I am also a college athlete and have always loved sports med / muscular science but kinda always figured I’d have to be a trainer and make no money to do that. But I started looking into med careers and I realized I could go into PM&R, Ortho, or FM and dig myself a career dealing with these types of issues, and that sounds super cool! Just to add as well, while I prefer sports med, my main interest is in body functionality, not specifically sports, and thus I would not mind working with elderly etc, since I still find it all very interesting. I am still not 100% sold on med school (work could change and i could enjoy it more), but I would like to give myself the flexibility to apply to med school should I choose that route and was wondering what pre-reqs / things I should do to set myself up to possibly apply.
I have a ~3.85 gpa right and have taken chem 1(got a B), quant bio(not sure if this counts as normal bio), calculus. No chem 2 / organic chem / anything else. I would still like to graduate with my civil degree but am scared to overload on med classes for fear of dropping my gpa, however, I have also heard that some schools prefer that you do not take classes at CC. Also have family friends who are pretty renowned in ortho and was going to shadow / talk to them on advice. Also, aiming for Rutgers for in state tuition, thats really the best option for my future especially in wake of the BBB. If anyone has any advice on some steps I should take it would be greatly appreciated!
