Temporary shelter for international students

Hi, I hope it is okay to post here as I do not have enough karma to post on r/askSingapore.

I'm an NTU student from Malaysia. I have failed to secure on-campus housing for my final year. Tried appealing to hall office, plead my situation and even submitted my parent's income tax as proof. And after watching all of my friends' appeals get accepted while I'm the only one who is still on the waitlist, I'm not too hopeful about my odds of securing one.

I only booked a one-way ticket when I came back to Malaysia so right now, I'm stuck in Malaysia. As soon as I'm on SG soil, I'll practically be homeless at least for a few days until I find alternative housing. I don't have close relatives here and I don't want to squat in my friends' room and risk them getting evicted either. If I were to find alternative housing outside, I'd like to physically view the room myself (to hopefully prevent scams if I were to view online) before I sign a one year lease. (Apologies for the stupidity, I have never rented outside before and I'm not too sure about how the entire procedure works) Thus, as per the title, I am wondering if any homeless shelters are willing to accept someone like me, or even affordable temporary housing options (as affordable as possible) works as well - I don't even mind sleeping in a couch or on the floor for a few days. Airbnb/ hotels are beyond my budget so that's out of consideration.

If the worst case scenario does happen, I would appreciate any advice from getting a good landlord to finding good room deals as my budget is kinda limited. (I'm looking for a room anywhere along the line segment of Pioneer to Clementi stations) Thank you!
