Has anyone else come off lithium, and found it easier to emotionally regulate?
I feel like this is what's happening. Psych mandated no more lithium effective immediately, last week. Concern over what it was doing to my kidneys after more than 20 years on it.
I was terrified, and convinced it would be hell. I was scared shitless at the idea I would be without my protection from mania (Bipolar comorbid).
But then the things that would send me into a deep-seeded rage just by thinking about them, only registered as annoyances. Situations that would normally have me screaming and going absolutely terrifyingly unhinged with emotional dysregulation, just- didn't. I was in control of myself, I was annoyed but fine. I had a good grasp on reality. I even decided that reporting the guy on the support line for his unprofessional blame-game behavior, just wasn't worth it. And anyway, I wasn't exactly one to talk about being an asshole.
I'm terrified to hope that I might have gotten this piece of myself back, from the jaws of the endless void of mental illness.
Even the absolutely psycho former boss of mine, who will go out of her way to start a fight- normally I go a little fight/ flight at the idea of being in the store (workplace) when she's there. But that's gone too. And I've been looking back on jobs I've lost, and understood what I did wrong and why it was an issue.
I've tried talking to my psychiatrist about it, but there's not enough time in appointments (I've asked for 30 min instead of 15 for my next appointment), and he's laser focused on making sure my kidneys recover. Which- fair. Definitely fair.
Anyone else had this experience?
(I'd been on lithium since I was 9, and remain on other medication. Lybalvi is taking the place of lithium).
