Need help

So ive had the console for some time, it was a gift from my stepdad and ive loved the thing but ive had some issues, some minor and then the big problem So 1 is that whenever i played a pokemon game it wouldnt save my progress, idk if its the game itself or the console but wtv The main problem is that ive recently tried to play with it again but everytime i turn it on, it shows the thumbnail, then gets stuck on a black screen, no booting, no games, nothing, i left it on while i played on my pc to see if it just needs time, abt 4 hours pass and its still on the black screen. I dont know a lot about these things and recently my main laptop that has an sd card reader died(rip, survived a hurricane but not a printer), so i cant really check at the moment if theres something wrong with the sd card. Can someone please help me figure it out, it cost my stepdad money and i feel a little shitty cus i feel like i did something to the console.
