Just looking for affirmation/reassurance

Surgery related

I had a pretty bad experience at the gyno this morning. I was able to advocate for myself to get scheduled for a laparoscopy but now I feel insane and like I shouldn’t have it.

Back story: 32F, I’ve been having your telltale signs of endo for a while now, especially GI issues, insane bloating, heavy periods, extremely low energy, signs of inflammation in my blood work, heat intolerance, intense face flushing, horrible back pain that’s the worst during my period (to the point that sometimes I can’t walk), and pain with sex. I went to see a GI specialist who ordered a colonoscopy, which came back perfect other than one small polyp that they removed. That was a little discouraging, as I was really hoping to get some answers from the colonoscopy.

On a hunch, I asked my PCP (absolute angel) if she thought my problems could be endometriosis-related. She said it was possible and ordered a transvaginal ultrasound, where they found one polycystic ovary with clear signs of adhesion. My ultrasound tech told me she had endo and it seemed like she knew exactly what to look for. Eureka!!

So this morning I had an appointment with a gyno whose bio on the hospital site said she specializes in endometriosis. I was so excited to meet with her and she wound up being such a huge disappointment. She didn’t address my polycystic ovary at all and went straight to me having pain during sex. I mentioned that I’m barely sexually active because of it, despite living with my boyfriend, and it seemed like that was all she was focused on? I felt really invalidated and like my boyfriend’s sexual pleasure was being prioritized over my decades of pain?

She did a brief pelvic examination and decided that all of my pain must be caused by “muscle spasms” and recommended pelvic floor physical therapy. (EDIT: She also suggested that since I just got a Nexplanon implant, we should “wait and see if that takes care of everything.” Meanwhile I had my old Nexplanon implant for 3 years and never improved?) I feel like she did not look at the results of my ultrasound whatsoever. At this point I started crying and said “I’m sorry, I was really hoping to get a referral for surgery. I’ll do physical therapy too but I can’t take this anymore.” She immediately changed her tune and said “We can do surgery! I’ll have my scheduler call you.” But at this point I’m starting to doubt myself. I feel so horrible and I’m scared she’s right and they’re going to cut me open and find nothing.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I was really disappointed with how this went, especially when my scan showed pretty clear signs that my ovary is stuck. I’m feeling defeated. I have cried so much today.
